Data sources & methodology

Every number on Ozelinx comes from a free, public source, and every widget tells you which one. This page explains the sources, how fresh they are and what happens when one fails.

Fallbacks and stale data

Each data type has an ordered list of sources. If the first fails, is rate-limited or is blocked in your region, the next one is tried automatically. If every live source fails we show the last good data or a scheduled snapshot and label it stale or “snapshot” with its time. If nothing is available, the widget says so rather than showing an empty or invented value.

Delays and differences between sites

Crypto prices are aggregated from several venues or taken from one named exchange, so they can differ slightly from the exchange you use. Stock, index and futures prices are typically delayed by around 15 minutes and only move during market hours. Daily crypto candles close at 00:00 UTC.

Coin pages

Coin descriptions, categories, links and exchange lists come from CoinGecko and are shown as provided, with HTML removed. Exchange links are informational and not endorsements. Prices on coin pages update live from Binance's public market data when the coin trades there, otherwise every couple of minutes.

News

Headlines come from 44 public RSS feeds, including CoinDesk, Cointelegraph, CNBC, MarketWatch, Investing.com, ForexLive, Dawn, Business Recorder, OilPrice, Finance Magnates, and Google News searches for gold, oil, grains, PSX and other markets. When you run the site on your own computer, a local aggregator checks the feeds every 30 seconds, removes duplicates and pushes new headlines to open pages without a reload. Otherwise the site uses a snapshot built by our daily job. We show only the headline, publisher and time and link to the original. Markets and topics are assigned by transparent keyword rules plus each feed's subject, so a story can appear in more than one market.

Asset tabs: how each number is calculated

  • Overview and Indicators: RSI(14), MACD(12,26,9), stochastic, CCI, ADX, Williams %R and momentum, plus EMA/SMA 10–200. Each votes buy, sell or neutral, and the summary is the balance of votes, the same idea as common “technical rating” tools. Pivot points use the previous period's high, low and close (classic, Fibonacci and Camarilla formulas).
  • Patterns: candlestick patterns are detected with fixed rules on completed candles. For example, a doji needs a body of at most 6% of its range and a range of at least 80% of the recent average.
  • Volume: the volume profile spreads each candle's volume evenly across its high–low range. Forex has no central volume, so the tab is hidden for currency pairs.
  • Liquidity: live order books from the venues listed above. A venue is used only if its price is within 6% of the reference price, so stale or unrelated markets are excluded. Proxies (tokenized gold, xStocks, perpetual futures) are labelled.
  • Liquidations: the list shows real liquidation orders reported by OKX. The map is a model, labelled “MODEL · ESTIMATED”. It assumes positions opened around recent prices with a leverage mix of 5× (15%), 10× (25%), 20× (25%), 25× (15%), 50× (12%) and 100× (8%), and plots where they would be liquidated. Real positions are not public.
  • Derivatives: funding rates, open interest and mark prices as published by OKX and Hyperliquid. Funding intervals differ between venues, so rates are shown per interval and are not directly comparable.
  • Seasonality and Correlation: monthly returns from monthly closes, and correlation of daily log returns aligned by UTC calendar day against benchmarks (Bitcoin, Ether, gold, silver, S&P 500, Nasdaq 100, DXY, EUR/USD, WTI).
  • Availability: if a tab has no real free data for a market (for example order books for wheat, or market cap for a currency pair), the tab is hidden and the reason is listed under the tab bar. We never fill a tab with placeholder numbers.

Liquidity heatmap

Where a free live order book exists, the heatmap samples it every second over a websocket (for example Binance depth updates every 100 ms) and colours each price level by resting size, with large trades drawn as bubbles. Where no free order book exists, it switches to a clearly labelled volume or time-at-price heatmap built from candles. That view is not live orders.

Guides and glossary

Guides are written and reviewed by our editorial team, dated, and updated when facts change. They explain concepts and risks; they do not recommend specific investments.

Frequently asked questions

Why is a price on Ozelinx different from my exchange or broker?

Prices differ between venues. Free stock, index and futures data is usually about 15 minutes delayed. Some markets are shown through proxies such as tokenized gold or perpetual futures, which trade on other venues.

Are the order books and liquidations real?

Order books and the liquidation-order list are real data from the named exchanges. The liquidation map is an estimate from a stated leverage model and is labelled as such.

Why is a tab missing for some markets?

We hide a tab when no free source provides real data for that market, and list the reason under the tab bar, instead of showing invented values.

How often does the news update?

Every 30 seconds when the local news aggregator is running on your computer; otherwise from a daily snapshot. The status bar on the news page shows which mode is active.
