How live news works

When you run Ozelinx on your own computer with Open Website.bat, a small local aggregator (news-server/ozx_news.py, Python standard library only) checks every feed about every 30 seconds (Google News searches every 60 seconds), removes duplicates, and passes new headlines to this page without a reload. This page checks for new headlines every 30 seconds while it is visible and pauses while the tab is hidden. If the aggregator isn't running, as on the public website, the page uses the snapshot built by our daily job, and the status bar says so.

About these headlines

Markets are assigned from each feed's subject plus simple keyword rules, so a story can appear under several markets. Inclusion is not an endorsement, and the views belong to each publisher. Items found through Google News search link through Google News to the publisher. To report a problem with a link, please contact us.

How to use the news page

  1. Use the market tabs (crypto, stocks, PSX, forex, gold, oil, metals, grains and more) to narrow the feed. Counts show how many headlines each tab has.
  2. Search titles, pick one publisher, sort oldest-first or tick Only new to see what arrived since you opened the page.
  3. New headlines appear at the top with a NEW tag while the local news service is running; otherwise the page shows the latest snapshot and says so.
  4. Every headline links to the original article on the publisher’s site. We show only the title, the source and the time.
  5. Hover over a relative time (“5 min ago”) to see the exact time. Click the clock in the header (or under any chart) to pick a time zone: Auto, UTC, the exchange’s own zone, a fixed UTC offset or any city. Every time on the site switches at once and the choice is remembered in this browser.

Where headlines come from

  • Public RSS feeds from established publishers and Google News topic feeds, checked every few minutes. Duplicates of the same story from different feeds are merged.
  • Headlines are tagged by market and topic with simple keyword rules, so a few may land in an unexpected tab.
  • We never copy article text and we do not rank or editorialise stories.

Frequently asked questions

Why can’t I read the full article here?

Articles belong to their publishers; the link takes you to the original page.

How fast does breaking news appear?

Usually within a few minutes of the publisher updating its feed. The banner under the header shows a fresh breaking headline when one arrives.

Can I suggest a source?

Yes, through the contact page. Sources must offer a public RSS feed.

Is news a trading signal?

Headlines move markets, but prices often react before a story is published. Nothing on Ozelinx is financial advice; prices can be delayed or wrong, so check with your broker or exchange before you trade.
